A Bird’s Eye View

Mission Statement

To contribute to Africa’s development by providing platforms for discussion of the myriad political, socio-cultural and economic issues affecting development on the continent, and for manpower development, mobilisation and utilisation.

History

The Pan African Consultancy and Productivity Institute (PANCOP) - until recently known as the Write Solutions Consortium - was founded in 1991 as a practical expression of the concerns raised by the founders about the persistent poverty and helplessness of the African people.

Notwithstanding her very generous natural resource endowment, Africa remains the world’s poorest continent.

The answer to the problem of development in Africa, PANCOP believes, lies in the proper development of her vast human resources to enable her to productively tap the enormous natural resource base.

In tackling the issue of human resource development, two factors must be brought into focus: creativity and productivity. These two (or rather the lack of them) have been the bane of development on the continent. The thrust of PANCOP’s manpower development activities is, therefore, to encourage creativity and productivity among Africans.

PANCOP acknowledges, though, that there is need for a holistic approach to the development of Africa, taking into consideration social, political and cultural factors.

Status

The Pan African Consultancy and Productivity Institute (PANCOP) is a private, self-financing organisation dedicated to contributing to Africa’s development efforts through consultancy, research and manpower development, among others.

Influence

PANCOP is neither a pressure group nor a political organisation.

However, as an Africa-centred organisation, PANCOP seeks through its activities (especially through provision of platforms) to catalyze efforts by African governments and development agencies operating in Africa to improve living conditions on the continent.

Cooperation

PANCOP seeks to cooperate with organisations - including political organisations and development agencies within and outside Africa - which have the improvement of living conditions on the African continent as one of their major objectives.

International Register of Consultants (IRC)

PANCOP maintains an international register of consultants (IRC) from which it draws resource persons for its consulting training assignments for national governments, international organisations, non-governmental organisations and other entities.

The creation of the IRC is an effort by PANCOP to encourage African governments, non governmental organisations and others operating in Africa to recognise and utilise expertise with experience of the continent.

The IRC is a network of individual and institutional consultants with experience of African and other developing countries drawn from all the five continents of the world.

PANCOP guarantees to clients the organisational and contractual framework and competitiveness which individual or small consulting entities are either unwilling or unable to provide.
